FIRST ANNIVERSARY
Welcome to the CoMEs website – Fencing Mediterranean Confederation, a sporting organisation, andcomes under the aegis of the F.I.E. – International Fencing Federation, established in 2003.
The Confederation consists of the federation made up of the national Fencing Federations of those countries bordering on the Mediterranean Sea, who have united together with the sole aim of promoting and developing this discipline in the whole Mediterranean basin and contribute to the furtherance of dialogue between the peoples living in this region.
These countries vary in size but nevertheless their cultures, traditions and religions find a common denominator in the Mediterranean Sea which for thousands of years made it possible for these countries to be in contact with each other. Instead of being a geographical barrier the Mediterranean Sea has been a major factor in bringing these countries closer to each other and to share their experiences – a cradle of great civilisation which has markedly contributed to the history of the human race. Today these countries feel more than ever before the necessity of living together and to strengthen their ties and relations, sharing between themselves methods, know-how, jurisdiction and organisational methods.
The Confederation is working towards this end in the fencing camp and in the first six years has managed, to undertake an activity, which has obtained very important results. So much so that it has been made possible to increase know-how and collaboration between those countries forming part of this Confederation. It has also made it possible for a substantial advance in the technique and organisation of the fencing world.
At present the countries adherents to the Confederation are seventeen – almost all the countries in wich fencing is officially organised – and all the Mediterranean continents there are represented.
The site celebrated on April 25th the first year of its life and few days ago the connections exceed three thousand, a very important number for a site destined at the beginning only to the Mediterranean federations.
Evidently its pages offers a broad view of the activities undertaken by the Confederation and gives all the relative information regarding its work and initiative to those who contact it.
May the Confederation move further on in its mission, and may fencing continue to enjoy the support it has enjoyed so far.
